What Is Pre/Postnatal Depression / Anxiety

Pre/Postnatal Depression can be described as tearfulness, despondency, feelings of inadequacy, and inability to cope. It is often accompanied by anxiety and feelings of guilt, shame, isolation, fatigue, a sense of loss and sometimes very frightening thoughts. Post Partum Depression / Anxiety is different from “Baby Blues” which can be described as brief periods of tearfulness experienced by 80% of women on the third or fourth day after childbirth. Postpartum Depression / Anxiety is also different from Postpartum Psychosis which involves the loss of contact with reality for extended periods of time.
